REFORGE™: MISSION WORKSHOP
TREND REPORT AND PRODUCT CONCEPT

COMPANY

Mission Workshop is a San Francisco, California-born brand creating weatherproof, modular, urban utility gear for cyclists, commuters, and outdoor tacticians. Their focus lies in durability, modularity, and design that works harder than you do.

MISSION

Design a modular, long-lifecycle apparel system for urban athletes and commuters that’s both tactical and adaptive.

Most “modular” systems feel cold and utilitarian, rarely adapting fluidly to changing temperatures, transit modes, or daily shifts. And while many brands boast sustainability, few extend it into garment evolution and long-term modularity.

PROCESS

I interviewed urban cyclists, digital nomads, and cold-climate commuters to map how real people adapt across time, space, and weather. Military layering systems and adaptive tactical gear provided structural inspiration.

I also limited materials to Mission Workshop’s existing textile standards, and challenged myself to build a fully remixable capsule from only 3–5 base components. Every module was required to offer at least two functional benefits.
A visual trend map shaped the design lens with modular systems, sustainability-through-longevity, and timeless silhouettes.

SOLUTION

A modular apparel-line drop built around layerable shells, detachable hoods and pockets, and practical add-ons to rebuild the same base into multiple configurations.

The focus was on durability, personal configuration, and rewear potential in lieu of trend-chasing.

I developed a product storyboard, visual concept board, full component breakdown, and detailed tech pack for construction and scalability.

IMPACT

This system invites consumers to remix instead of rebuy, reducing waste and deepening long-term brand loyalty.

Validation sessions via digital walkthroughs and sketch feedback with gearheads and eco-driven commuters revealed one consistent desire:
They want gear that grows with them.

The core takeaway?

Sustainability isn’t about using less — it’s about designing smarter.
